A lean by itself does not always mean a tree will fail, but changes in lean, cracking soil, root plate movement, fresh trunk splits, hanging limbs, or recent storm damage can justify prompt professional attention.
Signs worth reporting
- Recent change in lean
- Cracks or splits in major unions
- Roots lifting or soil heaving
- Large dead limbs over occupied areas
- Recent impact or storm damage
- Decay or cavities combined with other defects
